@Dec_vs_Japan_ Seems fair to me, itโ€™s not my fault Japan has four sets of tens of thousands of characters (incl romaji) that symbolize different things in different contexts. The Phoenicians more-or-less solved this problem about 3,600 years ago.

Moving from specialized symbols (e.g. kanji) to more universal symbols (e.g. hiragana) is similar to using universal objects (movable type/letterpress) instead of specialized objects (e.g. hand-copied illuminated manuscripts).
